The Comprehensive Program

The River City Guidance & Resilience (RCGR) Counseling Program is built upon the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Model and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model. Together, these frameworks ensure that counseling services are systematic, data-driven, equitable, and outcome-focused—addressing every student’s academic, career, and social/emotional development.

Domains & Services

RCGR counselors deliver services through three interrelated domains:

  • Academic Development: helping students develop the skills, attitudes, and behaviors necessary to achieve academic success.

  • Career Development: guiding students in identifying strengths, interests, and pathways toward college, career, or military readiness.

  • Social/Emotional Development: teaching coping strategies, responsible decision-making, and interpersonal skills to promote lifelong well-being.

These domains are implemented through four key service components:

  1. Core Curriculum Lessons – Classroom guidance lessons that promote college and career readiness, social skills, and academic habits for all students.

  2. Small-Group Interventions – Targeted groups that support students with common needs, such as organization, anger management, or transition readiness.

  3. Short-Term Individual Counseling – Brief, solution-focused sessions addressing immediate student concerns, ensuring timely support and referral when necessary.

  4. Consultation, Collaboration, and Referral – Coordinated communication among teachers, families, administrators, and community agencies to strengthen wraparound support systems.

Annual Outcomes

Each year, the RCGR program identifies specific, measurable goals aligned with school improvement priorities and student data. Counselors maintain an annual calendar that outlines lessons, small groups, events, and targeted interventions throughout the school year. At the end of each cycle, results reports and outcome analyses are shared with stakeholders—including administrators, faculty, and families—to ensure accountability and transparency.
These results help determine program effectiveness, guide revisions, and celebrate student growth across all three domains.

Equity & Access

Equity is the cornerstone of the RCGR program. All students have access to Tier 1 (universal) learning opportunities—such as core curriculum lessons and schoolwide initiatives—regardless of background, ability, or circumstance.
For students requiring additional support, Tier 2 (targeted) and Tier 3 (intensive) services provide personalized interventions to remove barriers to success. Counselors use disaggregated data to monitor participation and outcomes, ensuring that no student group is underserved.
By fostering inclusivity and advocacy, RCGR ensures that every student has the knowledge, skills, and support to achieve their highest potential in school and beyond.

"I can't say enough about the outstanding service I received from your company. Their team went above and beyond to meet our needs and exceeded our expectations."
